Project settings
Look up any field in a Studio project's Settings: what it shows, what it changes, and which ones you can edit. Renaming a project, finding its Project ID, jumping to its stack and deleting it all happen here. To set a project up for the first time, see Configure your project.
The example on this page is a Studio project called Blog. It's connected to a stack with a Blog post content type whose entries live under /blog. The stack has a production environment whose URL for English is https://www.example.com. The names come from the team blog.
Where to find Settings
Open a project, then select Settings in the left navigation. Settings opens on the General tab. The Configuration tab is below it.
Each tab has its own Save button. If you leave a tab with changes you haven't saved, Studio warns you: "Unsaved changes will be lost if you leave this page. What do you want to do next?"
Fields on the Configuration tab
The Configuration tab has one area, Environment and Localization. Everyone who works on the project shares these settings.
| Field | What it does | Editable |
|---|---|---|
| Environment | The stack environment Studio previews content from, such as production. The list comes from your stack. | Yes |
| Language | The stack language, such as English. The language and the environment together pick the Base URL. The list comes from your stack. | Yes |
| Base URL | The environment's URL for the selected language, such as https://www.example.com. The canvas loads your site from it. It has a Copy URL button. | No. Change it on the environment in Contentstack. |
| Canvas URL | The path of the route that previews sections, such as /canvas. Studio adds it to the Base URL, so section previews open https://www.example.com/canvas. Templates don't use it. | Yes. Required. |
| Enable Freeform Feature | Lets the project have freeform templates, and shows the Design and Data tabs. See Feature flags. | Yes |
Base URL and Canvas URL appear once both Environment and Language are selected.
Save stays disabled until the tab has an environment, a language, a Base URL and a Canvas URL.
| Message or state | What it means |
|---|---|
| No base URL found! | The selected environment has no URL for the selected language. Add one to the environment in Contentstack. You can't save until there is one. |
| The project has no Base URL | The canvas uses Studio's Playground canvas instead of your site, and Deploy is disabled. See Try Studio without an app. |
How the canvas Configuration dialog differs
The settings icon in the canvas toolbar is called Configuration. It opens a dialog with the same Environment, Language, Base URL and Canvas URL fields, but it isn't the same as this tab.
| Change in the dialog | Where it's saved |
|---|---|
| Environment or Language | Only in your browser, for this project. Other people keep the project's settings. Reset goes back to them. |
| Canvas URL | On the project, for everyone, the same as this tab. |
Fields on the General tab
The General tab has four areas.
Project Details
| Field | What it does | Editable |
|---|---|---|
| Name | The project's name, such as Blog. This is where you rename a project. | Yes. Required. |
| Description | A short note on what the project is for. | Yes |
| Project ID | The project's UID. It has a Copy UID button. | No |
Reset puts back the saved name and description. Save stays disabled until you change something, and while Name is empty.
Stack Connection
| Row | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Connected Stack | The stack's name. Click it to open the stack's dashboard, on the main branch, in a new tab. |
| Content Type | The project's Compositions content type, where Studio stores its templates and sections. Click it to open the content type in a new tab. The copy button copies its UID. |
Each row with a connection shows a Connected badge. If the project has no Compositions content type, the row reads "No composition type is configured for this project."
You can't change the connected stack or the content type here.
Integration Code
This area shows a code sample that initializes the Studio SDK, with a Copy button. Studio fills in your project's Compositions content type UID as contentTypeUid. yourContentstackDeliverySdkInstance is a placeholder for your Delivery SDK stack. See Install the Studio SDK.
Delete Project
This area deletes the project. See What deleting a project removes.
What deleting a project removes
You can't undo deleting a project.
| What's removed | Details |
|---|---|
| The project | Studio removes it. |
| The Compositions content type | Studio deletes it from the connected stack, on the main branch. |
| Every template and section | They're entries of that content type, so they go with it. |
Your other content types, entries, environments and tokens stay as they are.
To delete a project, click Delete Project at the bottom of the General tab. In the dialog, type DELETE in capitals under "Type 'DELETE' below to confirm", then click Yes, Delete. Yes, Delete stays disabled until the text matches exactly. No, Cancel closes the dialog and changes nothing. When Studio has deleted the project, it returns you to the projects list.
